Get Started with the JFrog Platform

Content Type
Administration / Platform

This guide will provide an overview of the JFrog components and services you'll use in each phase of the CICD lifecycle, and walk you through the necessary steps to start using your JFrog platform subscription.

JFrog Subscriptions

JFrog provides solutions for every stage of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), packaged in several types of platform subscriptions. Some components, services, and features described in JFrog documentation may not be available for all platform subscriptions.

JFrog Deployments: Cloud and Self-Hosted Servers

Soon, you will deploy your JFrog subscription on one or more dedicated servers that host JFrog component services. Each server is also known as a JFrog Platform Deployment (JPD).

  • Cloud deployments use virtual JPDs hosted in the JFrog service cloud (SaaS). All JFrog components and services supported by your subcription are available on the cloud JPD.

  • Self-hosted deployments run on servers in your managed environment. To build a JPD you must install and configure JFrog components and services, and configure communication with other servers - so there are additional configuration choices and installation procedures.

  • Hybrid deployments combine Cloud and self-hosted servers. Typically you first deploy the Cloud JPD platform, then add self-hosted servers to the deployment.

This guide starts with Cloud deployments, which are simpler and introduce basic concepts common to all deployment types.

JFrog User Interfaces

You will use the following interfaces to deploy and work with your JFrog platform subscription:

  • The JFrog Platform administration interface provides most of the tools you use to configure your subscription, to integrate JFrog tools in your workflow, and to use JFrog projects to manage your organization's resources.JFrog Platform Navigation

  • The MyJFrog portal provides tools to deploy and manage your Cloud subscription and monitor use of Cloud resources.MyJFrog Portal Dashboard

  • For self-hosted JPD servers, you use the terminal (CLI) interface to download installers and perform most installation and configuration procedures.

  • A rich set of APIs supports integration and automation of JFrog tools in your workflow.
