Understanding MyJFrog vs. JFrog Platform SSO: Key Differences and Access Guidelines

Introduction 

This article addresses the differences in Single Sign-On (SSO) functionality between MyJFrog and JFrog Platform. As two distinct platforms, MyJFrog serves as a centralized management portal for JFrog cloud subscriptions and the JFrog Platform is the Saas instance itself.

Questions often arise regarding who can access the MyJFrog portal and how SSO operates across these platforms.

This article aims to explain the following:
- How SSO works between MyJFrog and JFrog Platform.
- Steps to enable SSO from MyJFrog Portal.
- Grant users appropriate permissions on MyJFrog Portal.

Enable Platform SSO in MyJFrog Portal

Navigate to the Settings section in the MyJFrog portal.
Select General, then find the Enable Platform SSO option and choose the relevant JPD.

This means, in the above JPD - the admin users will also have direct access to MyJFrog portal via the above enabled SSO.

User Access Setup

Ensure users attempting to access the MyJFrog portal via SSO have admin permissions on the JFrog Platform. Without admin permissions, user won’t be able to see the MyJfrog portal in the JFrog Platform.

Note: 
Admin users from the JFrog Platform without similar permissions in MyJFrog will have limited read-only access by default on the MyJFrog portal.

Assigning Admin Privileges in MyJFrog to an additional user

To grant admin permissions in the MyJFrog portal, go to Manage Users and manually add the user as an Admin. You can also assign other roles as required. More information on the roles can be found here.
